ST. MICHAEL JUMUIYA
It was founded in early 1995 as the third of the only three Jumuiyas of St. Mary Mihang’o Catholic Church, an outstation of Divine Word Parish Kayole. The name was suggested by Mrs. Teresia Mungai from her previous Jumuiya in Malindi after she settled here in October 1994. The original members were:
- Mama Kabau
- Simon Kamau family
- Edwin Kigera family
- Jacinta Mwaura family
- Peter Koigu family
- Mama Gitau (the late)
- Jacinta Wangui family
- Nicholas Mucunga family
In year 2000 a new Outstation was started by the Ruai Parish on Katua farm. This Outstation was nearer to us than Mihang’o and we naturally shifted. St. Michael became the second of the only two Jumuiyas the other one being St. Lucia. Later St. Michael was dissolved after formation of a new Jumuiya – St. Paul and members joined. Jumuiya boundary review was carried out resulted into formation of new Jumuiyas these being St. Gabriel and St. Michael once again.
A new Outstation was later founded in Amani Court Utawala and once again we shifted together with St. Paul and St. Gabriel. However, it was later discovered that we had encroached on Holy Family Embakasi zone and soon it was reversed. Some families didn’t revert to Katua, but resolved to join Comboni an Outstation of St. Mary Immaculate Parish. St. Michael was back to Katua up to date. It is composed of the following families:
- Teresia Mungai
